In addition to what is trending in terms of clothing, I also try to keep close tabs on moving beauty trends. After all, the smallest, most minute details can make an unexpected impact on the overall aesthetic of your look! So whether you visit the nail salon every couple of weeks or prefer an at-home DIY manicure, you will most certainly want to take notes from this post to see what nail polish colors you should start going after now. Top Fall Winter Nail Trends to Try in 2021
Hunter Green
Amongst all the fall winter nail trends, I think that this deep shade of hunter green is the one grabbing my attention the most. It is both elegant, yet unexpected, making it a shade that will stand out amongst all your cold weather outfits. The deep, earthy tone will add a lot of complexity and interest to your looks and surprisingly – matches almost anything you decide to wear it with. For instance, I was instantly drawn to this olive shade from OPI!
Mustard
This next shade from the top fall winter nail trends for 2021 is taking direct inspiration from the changing of the leaves in autumn. This eye-catching mustard shade will act as a fresh, exciting pop of color to inject into your everyday looks. Like the aforementioned dark green nail polish, mustard is bright but manages to compliment a plethora of different colors and patterns. I even like the color mustard to create some trend savvy nail designs like a kitschy checkerboard or an updated version of the french tip.
Chocolate Brown
This warm, dark chocolate brown shade is actually one of my favorite fashion trends for the Fall/Winter season so it only makes sense to see it resurface as one of the top nail polish colors to be on the lookout for. It is not as loud as a black would be, but still dark enough to be seasonally relevant, making it an optimal choice for those who want to be trend savvy but are not really keen on bright colors for this time period.

Dark Maroon
Just like a lipstick, a red nail polish will always be a timeless option. However, switch it up a bit this season by opting for something a few shades deeper such as a dark maroon, wine, oxblood red, or deep berry. It adds a bit more complexity to your typical shade of bright red and is a sophisticated option, making this shade a must try in terms of fall winter nail trends. One of my go-to maroon shades is Lady is a Tramp by Deborah Lippmann. If you want to add an accent to your dark maroon nails, try adding in a flash of metallic gold!
Metallic Shine
Speaking of, metallic nail polishes are here to stay this season. Just like more people are akin to dressing up more than ever this year after the pandemic, nail trends are going in the same direction. A metallic polish will do wonders in terms of dressing up your look and adding that bit of shine to every outfit. Typical shimmery shades like silver, gold and rose gold are all viable options but I also expect to see more metallic versions in all of the other top fall winter nail trends listed here too. Be sure to stock up on both chunky glitters and smooth metallic formulas!
Navy
For those who like a good cool toned nail polish color, this one’s for you! Say hello to the resurge of all shades of navy. This beautiful jewel toned color is a gorgeous autumnal and winter shade. It is just enough to make a statement without being in your face. These dimensional shades of navy will look amazing as a regular polish or use it to create a trendy DIY minimal design.
