How to Look Chic at the Airport

After an endless amount of flights, I have finally perfected the ultimate recipe to look incredibly put together when heading to the airport. Travel days are notoriously long, even if your actual flight is just a few hours. From packing to getting a ride to departures to navigating through TSA, it can take hours until you land at your final destination. This is why comfort is the name of the game. However, this doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice your style. I have experimented with a ton of looks and have concluded that the best airport outfit is simple, straightforward, and relaxed. Ahead, I am dishing out all the details on what exactly this ideal travel look entails.

The Formula

Nice pants + Casual Sneakers + Top Layers

This foolproof formula is my year-round airport travel outfit! It never fails to get the job done (AKA be comfy and look chic). It’s easily adaptable and can be modified for different destinations, moods, and styles. Ahead, I’ll be sharing a bit more about each element and where you can shop this airport outfit for yourself.

1) Trousers

While trousers are typically associated with business casual attire, a well-chosen pair can be just as comfortable as your favorite pajama pants. Look for options in breathable fabrics like satin, linen, cotton, or recycled poly to ensure comfort all day long. Plus, you can dress any pair of trousers up or down when you get to your final destination (which is key because of limited suitcase space).

Sneakers

The aforementioned trousers can look stuffy at times so to dress them down and make your look more travel-friendly, pair them with casual footwear. Lately, my favorite has been these sneakers from Brooks. The knitted body and neutral colorway makes them effortless to style. However, any casual-leaning sneaker or shoe will do the trick!

Layers (Tank, Sweater, Coat)

The key to the perfect airport outfit is layering. Even if you’re traveling to a tropical destination, the airplane can be chilly. Start with a cami or tank top as a base layer, then add a lightweight sweater or jacket for extra warmth. If it’s cold outside, finish off with a longline coat for the chicest on-the-go vibes.

Bonus: Personal Items and Carry On Bags

You can’t talk about airport style without mentioning personal items and carry on bags! Quality is key here and my favorite bag of choice is a roomy tote bag that has the capability of holding all of my in-flight essentials, along with a handy-dandy carry on roller bag.
