Earth Day: My Current Favorite Sustainable Brands

This is a PSA announcement to remind you that Earth Day is this week Friday, April 22. I am passionate about Mother Earth and although I am not perfect by any means, I do try to implement as many sustainable practices in my life as possible. I truly believe that all the small actions individuals make can add up and be impactful for this place we happen to call home. For instance, I try to avoid single-use plastics (water bottles, takeout containers, straws, etc), conserve water (shorter showers), and will carpool or walk when possible. But perhaps one of the #1 lifestyle changes is trying to invest my money with the right companies. I have been doing my due diligence and learning about the brands I am supporting through my purchases. This ensures our hard earned dollar is going towards a company that cares about the planet just as much as I do. To celebrate Earth Day, here are my current favorite sustainable brands. I hope this enlightens you and allows you to discover somewhere new to shop!

Earth Day: My Current Favorite Sustainable Brands

Fashion: Sustainable Brands

Boyish

You might know Boyish for their outstanding denim but this is a company that truly goes above and beyond in terms of sustainable practices. It is actually a brand native to California so it essentially operates right in my backyard. Boyish vows all products are made in ethically sound factories with environmentally-friendly practices and materials in use.  They have a ‘great’ rating on Good On You (where I like to check the sustainable ratings of brands before I commit to a purchase).  Tap into some of Boyish spring and summer collections below.

Christy Dawn

The entire premise behind Christy Dawn is to honor Mother Earth. Actually, they believe that there is more beyond just sustainability. Christy Dawn is all about regeneration or practices that can heal the planet. This brand uses repurposed fabric and organic cotton which is part of their farm-to-closet beliefs. If you are looking to build a sustainable wardrobe from the ground up, Christy Dawn is the place to shop. It is a major plus that this label is known for their whimsical, cottagecore-like dresses that are simply to die for.

Girlfriend Collective

On the hunt for comfy basics with a sustainable twist? Girlfriend Collective is for you! Beyond their 100% recycled packaging, many of their top items are made with sustainability in mind. The compressive bras and leggings are Mae from 79% recycled poly and the LITE leggings are made from recycled fishing nets (which are one of the leading causes of ocean pollution). 👏

Vitamin A

Swimwear season is here and if you have not yet invested in your bathing suits for the months ahead, allow me to introduce you to Vitamin A. Not only are all the bikinis and one-pieces design to last but they also use recycled and plant-based materials. The icing on the cake is that with every purchase, Vitamin A gives back a portion of the sale to 1% For the Planet, an organization that strives to protect our oceans. Shop some of their plant-based swimwear and cover ups below.

Stella McCartney

In terms of designers, Stella McCartney has been killing the sustainability game for quite some time. She is considered a leader by many and she continues to push environmental consciousness to the forefront of fashion. In fact, it is engrained in the label’s ethos in which they strive to be held responsible and honest. I am such a huge fan of Stella McCartney’s ready to wear collections. If you want high-quality, unique pieces that will last you a lifetime, I cannot recommend this brand enough.

Beauty: Sustainable Brands

Chanel Number 1

The other week, I wrote a blog post all about my experience traveling to France with the Chanel Number 1 beauty team. It was truly a trip for the books! The experts at Chanel shared how they are more sustainable than ever thanks to their use of bio-based materials and refillable product options. If you want your skin to look and feel luxurious, Chanel Number 1 is the way to go.

Ilia

For months, I have seen Ilia at the top of the best selling list at Sephora. The reviews really speak for themselves too! There are so many other beauty lovers who rave about this brand and I had to see what the hype is all about. When it comes to clean beauty, this is a brand that really has it down pat. With the use of conscious, selected ingredients, you can rest easy knowing their makeup products are not only good for your skin, but also good for the planet.

Nécessaire

A new cult favorite these past couple of years, Nécessaire is another top beauty brand that takes sustainability seriously. One of the most impressive things about this brand is that they are Climate Neutral Certified – AKA they were able to offset their carbon footprint in full by the time their first year of business ended. Not only that but they are clean, cruelty-free, and give back money from every purchase back towards rehabilitating the environment.
